50km Bike ‘n Hike: The Remote Maol Bhuidhe Bothy!
20 kilometres away from the nearest road, far from help, zero phone signal, and gaurded by several river crossings, Maol Bhuidhe Bothy is a true wild and remote bothy. In this video, Kev and I for a night away in this fine bothy which was refurbished in spring 2024. We set up from Killilan for a 20km bike and hike, and also hike the equally remote peak, Ben Dronaig!

    Great video Robin. As you found, the magnet flysheet door tie backs on the Ultra are hopelessly inadequate - and dangerous if you are cooking in the porch as the door material can come down so easily. An easy mod - much stronger magnets are available on e bay for less than a tenner for half a dozen or so - same diameter as on the tent. I just used some DCF tape to stick them over the existing magnets. Works well - but this really shouldn't be necessary and I had to do the same with my TT Notch when I bought that 3 years ago. I would hope Tarptent will note the problem and sort it for the future.

    • @WalkWithWallace
      @WalkWithWallace День тому

      Cheers David, the magnetic tiebacks are woeful. I did feed this back and they said they’ve addressed it, with longer tiebacks. Tbh I prefer to have no magnets on my gear in case it plays havoc with my compass.

    Transformed bothy indeed, but look, this pee test is a bit unscientific, is it not? I was expecting you's both to produce a bottle in the morning, so's they could get measured up...! I also though you'd have the place to yourselves - my pal Kev there often has similar ideas to mine!!

      Haha, that’s taking the pee test to a whole new level. I was surprised we didn’t get any late entries coming in after a hard shift on the CWT.
